GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under the supervision of the Executive Vice President, the Events Coordinator is responsible for (1) planning highly visible events organized and supported by the chamber. (2) Performing the duties of the Information Specialist when necessary. This position is highly visible in the community and requires diplomacy, flexibility, organizational skills and the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and think outside the box. The candidate should be able to find new and creative ways to expand membership and promote events while maintaining the values of the chamber. JOB DUTIES The Events Coordinator is accountable for: • Planning & implementing a multitude of sporting and recreational activities and events that encourage community involvement and reinvestment in our area. Events include, but are not limited to, the Oak Island Lighthouse Run/Walk, Coastal Consumer Showcase, Youth Business Fair, N.C. 4th of July Festival, U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament, Christmas By The Sea Parade, Chamber Golf Tournament, Home and Garden Show, and all other events organized and supported by the chamber. Candidate must have a working knowledge of the logistics of public events. Prior experience with event planning is a must. Candidate must be comfortable approaching sponsors for in-kind and financial event donations. • Creating & executing a digital/online marketing campaign to include regular updating of the chamber’s website and developing a strong online presence through social media channels. The ideal candidate will have experience with a multitude of social channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and any other current/trending social media channels. Necessary skills include an understanding of the different social channels and how to achieve maximum visibility through each channel. Necessary skills include prior experience writing blogs and developing online content that is effective with current search engine optimization strategies. Experience with blogging is a plus. • Creating and executing results-driven traditional marketing and public relations functions necessary to promote events and achieve maximum awareness and attendance of events. This includes writing press releases, organizing interviews with the media, coordinating ad placements, submitting articles for publication and other traditional marketing/PR functions. Prior experience in creating marketing plans is preferred. • Providing maximum visibility of chamber programs and securing sponsorships for events set forth by the chamber. • Developing other strategies to increase the Chamber’s presence and create revenue streams, including driving additional online traffic and increasing user engagement. OTHER: • Perform Job Duties of the Information Specialists which include and not limited to answering the phone, taking payments, selling merchandise, answering visitor and member questions, stocking brochures. • Works with the Executive Vice President to develop a three-year timetable to develop and implement a balanced events budget. • Part-Time Administrative Assistant is available to support in achieving the goals. • Events Coordinator will work with the Executive Vice President to set meaningful, measurable goals and key metrics for each event and activity to include customer satisfaction, attendance, visibility/promotion and return on investment. • Events Coordinator will recruit, coordinate and train volunteers for events. • The ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required. • The ability to travel locally as necessary. • Administrative and other duties as assigned. • The position reports to the Executive Vice President. • Enthusiasm and a positive attitude are essential. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Two years experience in developing and implementing recreational activities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. • Experience with events planning and social media are essential. • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office – including Word, Publisher & Excel. Design skills are a plus. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and your own, reliable transportation. • Must reside in Brunswick County. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clean criminal background check. • Must be physically able to carry out the duties including the ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds. COMPENSATION & HOURS The Part-time Events Coordinator works approximately 16-24 hours per week but additional hours will be required during events. Candidates must be flexible with scheduling, realizing their work hours will vary from week to week. Schedule will be posted on a monthly basis. Additional hours will be in the evening, weekends and/or holidays. Salary: Up to $12.00 per hour. Position is eligible for Overtime Pay on any hours worked over 40 hours in a week.
