Sunset Harbor

Sunset Harbor, tucked away behind Oak Island’s west end on the Lockwood Folly River and Intracoastal Waterway is a serene, wildlife friendly community. A place where deer and fox live beside their human neighbors in complete harmony. Where an angler can cast a line over oyster beds and catch their limit of drum and trout. Where the country store has everything from homegrown vegetables to fuel. Where you can launch your boat or kayak from the NC Wildlife Commission maintained boat launch and be in the ocean or up river within minutes.

The peacefulness of this area is appealing to those that love the country but want to be close to the action. The sunsets are the most striking you will see. A number of new housing developments along with established developments like River Run Plantation have increased the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the tidal creeks, salt marshes, and the Lockwood Folly River “in the Harbor.”  Sunset Harbor is an unincorporated community.
