St. James Plantation Golf
In 1991, the first homes and the Gauntlet golf course were built in the planned residential community of St. James Plantation. Inside this gated community residents enjoy a chapel, beach club, 81 holes of golf (The Players Club, The Members Club, The Reserve), two fitness centers, marina with dry stack storage, clubhouses, marketplace, walking and biking trails, pavilions and amphitheater. As the development grew, residents requested the area in and around the development to be incorporated as a municipality.  In 1999, the State of North Carolina approved the incorporation of St. James, NC.

The Town of St. James is nestled against the Intracoastal Waterway, Highway 211 and the Swain’s Cut Bridge Corridor to Oak Island.  It is located in a prime location, convenient to schools, local shopping, restaurants, entertainment, beaches and golf.  The average resident age of St. James is 65 years of age and very active volunteering in the many educational, social and philanthropic organizations in the greater Southport-Oak Island area.

St. James Community CenterAs needs to serve all residents of the Town grew, they built a Town Hall and Multi-use Community Center at 4136 Southport-Supply Road. This first class Community Center hosts many public events including the Chamber’s Coastal Consumer Showcase in March.  The facility has four meeting rooms and a large multipurpose room that will seat 330 people with catering kitchen. The 2013 year-round population was 3,978. More information visit the Town of St. James website.
