The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce has several award programs throughout the year to recognize businesses from within the membership who are excelling. Those awards are the quarterly Golden Pineapple Awards, annual Small Business of the Year, Customer Service of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, President's Award and Ambassador of the Year.

Golden Pinapple Award
In colonial America the pineapple symbolized the warmest welcome a hostess could extend to their guests. A business community the exemplify this same warm welcoming attitude through consistent, exceptional customer service is critical to the health and vitality of our community's economy. 

To reward businesses who provide consistent, exceptional customer service the Chamber implemented the quarterly Golden Pineapple Awards. The general public is encouraged to nominate a business in the Southport-Oak Island area that has provided you exceptional customer service. The only criteria is they must be a member of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.  Those who are nominated who are not members will be notified of their nomination but they will not be awarded the Golden Pineapple.  Sponsored by Corning Credit Union Mortgage.

Small Business Customer Service Award

All businesses nominated for a Golden Pineapple Award in the previous four quarters will be eligible to compete for the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business Customer Service of the Year Award. These businesses will be invited to compile a packet of information, which will be submitted for judging by Brunswick Community College Small Business Center.  The winner will be announced in February.

Small Business of the Year
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce will accept nominations for the Small Business of the Year Award until November 1st. The general public is encouraged to nominate a local business to compete for this award but once nominated the business will need to meet the following criteria before they are eligible to compete:

  • The business must be a member of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.
  • The business must have been in operation for a minimum of five years.

After nominations are closed, the nominated business will be notified and if they meet the criteria they will be invited to compile a packet of information which will be submitted for judging by the Brunswick Community College Small Business Center. The winner will be announced in February, recieve a beautiful plaque and be recognized at the annual Coastal Entrepreneur Awards in Wilmington.

Non-Profit of the Year
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce will accept nominations for the Non-Profit of the Year Award until November 1st. There are many non-profit organizations working throughout Brunswick County and they should be recognized for their good works. The general public is encouraged to nominate a non-profit organization to compete for this award.

Once nominated, the Chamber will qualify those nominations based upon three criteria:

  • Non-Profit Organization recognized by the IRS.
  • Provide charitable services in the Southport-Oak Island Area.
  • Been in Operation for a minimum of 5 years.

After the criteria is met the non-profit organization will be invited to submit a packet of information for judging by Brunswick Community College Small Business Center.  The winner will be announced in February.

Annual Meeting-
The Annual Meeting is an important gathering of the members of the organization. Annually the leaders of the organization report to its members on the activities of the year, pass the presidential gavel, retire 5 Board members and introduce the incoming Board to its members.  The 48th Annual Membership Meeting - Thursday, July 15, 2023 at 8am in The Brunswick Center at Southport. Fee:  $10 per person.
