The Aquariums were established in 1976 to promote an awareness, understanding, appreciation and conservation of the diverse natural and cultural resources of North Carolina’s ocean, estuaries, rivers, streams and other aquatic environments. Visit all three!

Planning a visit to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher? Most visitors tour the aquarium in about two hours. If you plan to participate in programs, search for relics in the Fossil Hunt, or visit the gift shop, allow more time.

Planning your visit for April or May? Please be aware you may share your experience with many young visitors. Large school groups generally visit the Aquarium from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays during the spring months. Enjoy your visit!

Touch a live shark, climb along Adventure Reef, meet an albino alligator, talk to a scuba diver, come face-to-face with a sea turtle.

Observe Aquarium divers in the 235,00 gallon Cape Fear Shoals exhibit as they go about their daily tasks and swim with sharks, rays and eels. Divers will answer your questions about exhibit inhabitants while submerged 20 feet.  Times: 10:30a.m. & 2:30p.m.

Although the tanks provide many opportunities to view aquatic life, Creature Feature is a chance to learn about selected animals up close and personal. From rays and crabs to turtles and alligators-all are lively encounters you're sure to enjoy.  Times: 11:30a.m.

Ocean Odyssey- Join Aquarium educators to discover fascinating facts about our watery world. Dress up like a shark, touch a turtle shell or test your Qquarium knowledge.  Time: 1:30p.m.

Animal Feedings:  Observe the behavior of animals being fed at the Aquarium each day. An educator is on hand to answer questions and offer insights about types of diet, feeding patterns and more. Times: 11:00a.m. & 3:00p.m.

Animal Encounters:  Guests get the chance to be up close and personal with a variety of animals at the Aquarium. Educators introduce you to reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and more as they answer your questions. Time: 12:30p.m. and 3:30p.m.

Smart Cart Connection: Carts stocked with shells, skulls, and activities are set up in different locations to highlight Aquarium animals and habitats. Times:  Vary throughout the day.
