Smart Start of Brunswick County is a non-profit organization focusing on the first 2,000 days of a child’s life. They support parents and children through a number of programs and resources – such as childcare resources and referral, childcare subsidies, quality technical assistance, family support services, and NCPreK. The State of North Carolina Division of Child Development (DCD) has a 1-5 star rating for licensing child care centers and family child care homes. A one star rating indicates the child care program meets NC’s minimum standards and the two to five star licenses have met higher standards. Looking for a childcare center in the Southport-Oak Island Area? Look in the Chamber’s Business Directory or the DCD offers an online child care facility search which will show the star ratings.
