Art Galleries & Guilds-  The picturesque landscape and wildlife in the Southport-Oak Island area inspire many artists to create works of art in all types of disciplines – painting, quilting, pottery, ceramics, photography, metalwork, woodwork, basketwork, creative writing and jewelry. They have found this area so inspiring, a community of artists have assembled to live and work in the area.  Enjoy the beauty of their work as you wander through the many galleries, gift shops and arts/crafts shows in the area. 

A don’t miss art event is the monthly First Friday Gallery Walk - 5pm-7pm at participating galleries in Southport. Begin the Gallery Walk at the Franklin Square Art Gallery – 130 East West Street, Southport. Franklin Square Art Gallery is a stately building built in 1904 as a school but served as City Hall, community building, and library before becoming the gallery some 30 years ago.

Pescado Y Amor Paint Class
Create your own work of art at local galleries with group paint classes. Galleries like Pescado y Amorhave group classes where all you have to do is "show up and sip!" They will assist you along the way to create your own unique piece of art. They also have classes for young Picassos. 


Art ShoppingAssociated Artists of SouthportThe Franklin Square Gallery is the home to the Associated Artists of Southport, a non-profit organization dedicated to the cultural enrichment of our community.  The gallery, run by volunteers, houses the work of talented local artists for sale and on display in one of their many annual shows. Brunswick Arts Council- Non-profit organization with a mission to inspire and promote appreciation, education and support for a broad range of arts and cultural interests. Brunswick Arts Council supports events such at the Brunswick County Intercultural Festival  with live multicultural performances, children's workshop and art poster contest -held each September at Brunswick Community College Main Campus in Bolivia.  P.O. Oak Island Senior Center
Ruth T. Bigham Oak Island Senior Center & Craft Shop-is a private non-profit organization that serves the recreational, social, intellectual and physical needs of senior citizens who opt to live in Smithville Township in Brunswick County. They have a craft shop where members can sell their handmade items and the general public can purchase unique gifts. They offer classes in the Center, Monday through Friday for watercolor and oil painting, knitting, crocheting and basket weaving.painting, quilting, pottery, ceramics, photography, metalwork, woodwork, basketwork, creative writing and jewelry.
