Clean the Creek
The Oak Island Recreation, The Adventure Company and Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty will sponsor the 2nd Annual Clean the Creek. Volunteer participants will be involved in helping to "clean the Creek" as they kayak or walk along the banks of Dutchman's Creek from Bill Smith Park to the ICW at South Harbour. Volunteers are asked to pre-register by calling the Oak Island Recreation Department. Bring your own kayak or reserve one from The Adventure COmpany. Limited number of kayaks will be available to use at no charge for the event. Wear closed toed shoes that you can get wet, wear protective gloves and come help "Clean the Creek".

Bruce Porter Lecture Series
Presenter: Howie Franklin, Stories from Air Force One. Mr. Franklin was Chief Flight Attendant for US Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton and also flew extensively with Secretary of State Kissinger during the Nixon and Ford administration Shuttle Diplomacy Missions. He spent 29 years in the US Air Force working in Special Missions Operations including 18 years on Air Force One. Mr. Franklin has over 300 stories of his memories of working around Presidents, First Ladies, Vice Presidents, Cabinet Secretaries, VIP guests and the US press corps. He is currently the Director of Brunswick County Airport in Southport.
